Fire Hoses

Fire hose inspection

The inspection will determine if the hose, fittings, and nozzle have been misused, if they are free of debris and rust, and if they have been damaged by chemicals, cuts or vermin. A hydrostatic test must be carried out five years after the fabrication date, and every three years after the initial test. The fire hose inspection includes:

  • The label and the WHMIS inspection seal
  • The inspection card
  • The recommendation and detailed report

Fire hoses and nozzles

All the nozzles must be inspected every year and after each use. The inspection must include the verification of:

  • The unobstructed water circulation
  • The damages
  • The appropriate nozzle model and adjustment for each fire hose
  • The adjustment handle’s proper function
  • The joint is watertight and the mesh is in good condition

Fittings

The fittings will be visually inspected to ensure that they are kept in good condition. The inspection must include the following points:

  • Damaged grooves, corrosion
  • Distorted or torn hoses
  • Pivot does not rotate freely
  • Missing hook or attachment
  • Loose external collar
  • Watertight Internal joint, according to industry standards

If the fire hose fails the inspection for any reason, it must be put aside, repaired or replaced.
